OH NO! The thermometer in my fish tank broke and mercury is EVERYWHERE!?
WHAT DO I DO? I have 2 male guppies and 2 goldfish living in that tank! Will they die? The bottom bit of the thermometer is brokes the one with the silver balls and red gooey stuff. I don’t wanna read stuff about the tank being to small or any of that rubbish. I wanna know what to do! I’m too scared of puttting my hand in or i might get poisened but i am concerned about my fishies!!! 10 points for the best answer!!!! Here are some pics of the broken thermometer. oh yeah and you may be wandering how i broke it. My little baby sister was playing with the maf-float and it hit the thermometer bad.
OK so it’sactually lead silver balls so what do i do???
Well, if that is indeed lead, then it’s not dangerous. Lead strips are often used to tie down aquatic plants into the substrate. I would still get them out, do 30% every other day for a week maybe and put some carbon in the filter. Carbon is like charcoal, it’s used to absorb chemicals, such as meds in the tank, it should get out the alcohol in the tank hopefully. Also, the larger the tank you have, the less you need to worry about this, as it will get diluted.
