Jogging Stroller Tires question?!?
so… we found a great stroller at a great price, it is an InStep Suburban Safari, the blue one with 12” swivel wheels. i like everything about this stroller, except i find that the wheels (all same size) are a bit too small for our terrain…i was wondering if i can replace the tiny wheels with the 16” tires most jogging strollers have? also, since the tires are all the same size, that means they are connected on the same height, so i guess i wouldnt be able to leave the front wheel as it is and just replace the back tires with some larger ones? is replacement at all an option? or are they permanently fixed?
The wheels aren’t permanently fixed, but only so far as you can take them off and replace them with same size. The front tire swivels (and can swivel under the stroller (see pic: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5614718&sourceid=1500000000000003260330&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=5614718 ) so the radius of the tire is going to be limited from the front axle to the bottom of the stroller. Because you can’t change the front tire to a larger size you also won’t be able to change the rear tires because a larger radius is going to make the stroller tilt forward. If you’re buying new I suggest looking at the Instep Safari: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8466653 which has the larger rear tires. We’ve had a Safari for about 5 years and I love it.
