Doing Up The Nursery – Baby Furniture
Welcoming a baby into the world is indeed a very unique and happy process, and the preparations that go into making your house most comfortable for the baby, of course designing the nursery and choosing the baby furniture are very important parts. Parents spend a long time deciding on the lay out of the nursery, some people hire designers and professionals whereas some choose to do it themselves in the old-fashioned way. While designing the baby’s nursery, the theme, colors, wallpaper and the other designs are a matter of personal choice. The furniture on the other hand should be picked out not only to match the theme but also to make sure that the baby remains safe and comfortable and that all of the baby’s things like diapers, clothes, toys and so on have a place to be put in.
Choosing The Baby Furniture
There are certain furniture items that are necessary in a baby’s nursery. The cot bed obviously is the most important. Since this is where the baby will mostly sleep and rest it has to be very comfortable and safe. The cot should have no sharp edges or gaps and the rails on the side of the cot shouldn’t be too far apart or too close together – about 2 inches apart is fine. This is to make sure that the baby doesn’t injure itself by hitting anything or getting anything stuck anywhere. It should be sturdy and strong so that it can take the baby’s weight. It is better to get a cot with rails that can go up and down, as this will make taking the baby in and out easy. Another important part is the changing table where you can change the baby’s diapers.
The changing table should be bought so that it is comfortable for you to place the baby on it, it would be convenient to have a drawer or two as you can put diapers, cotton etc in them. The changing table should also have a pad cover, along with a rail and safety belt to protect the baby. The dresser in the nursery should be voluminous enough to stock all the toys and clothes. There will be a lot of things that you will have to put aside and it can be unsafe leaving them around in the room so the dresser should be bought keeping in mind these things.
Everything Else
Apart from these things you can add any other furniture you like, though the main rule is making sure it is sturdy with no edges and gaps. The linen and bedding are another important part of the nursery. Make sure they are soft and comfortable, and as far as possible in cotton. Do not choose any other synthetic fabric. Pillows are unsafe in the crib as they could suffocate the baby. It is also a good habit to get a night light but make sure it is of a soft intensity.
