Will a 1200 degree infrared thermometer be hot enough to measure a wood campfire?
I am doing a science fair project on burning wood in different set ups to see which produces the most heat and im thinking of buying an infrared thermometer that reaches 1200 degrees F. will that be enough to properly and accurately record the temprature? My fires are usually an opaque light orange with a small flicker of blue at the base of the flame.
IT isn’t about the thermometer being hot. Infrared thermometers don’t actually have a physical probe reaching the temperature they measure, they use Wien’s law to relate most abundant frequency to temperature of the emitter.
It is about the infrared radiation detector having enough capability of frequency measurement.
That visible color of orange flames is only the “tip of the iceberg” of a black body radiation spectrum. The majority of it is infrared.
