How to change/paint a natural colored crib to a dark colored crib finish?
We’re expecting a baby boy in May 2010 and to save money, I am hoping to change the finish of my first baby’s crib from the natural maple finish to an espresso dark wood color. I’m wondering how to begin this project and use baby friendly paints that are non-toxic. Any help would be great! Thanks.
You can do this one of two ways. The first would be to sand down all the wood so there is no longer any finish on it. If there is any shine left on it a stain won’t take. You can stain it with a gel stain and finish it with a poly. Look for products made for children’s furniture. The easiest way would be to prime the whole crib and paint it a nice semi gloss chocolate brown. Congratulations and good luck!
