newborn transitioning from sleeping in bed to bassinet/cradle?
my newborn baby girl is a week old and right now, she falls asleep in bed with me because i breastfeed, and she falls asleep when she eats which is a whole diff problem. but how do i get her to sleep in her bassinet because the second i put her down from my arms to the bassinet, she wakes up?? i don’t want her getting in a bad habit by sleeping in my bed because some babies sleep with their parents until they’re older and wont sleep in their own bed. but she obviously prefers my warmth and comfort to a bassinet [which is sweet and oh so cute] but i just can’t get her to sleep anywhere but with me.
Have you tried swaddling her? She could be waking up because newborns have a very strong startle reflex. Maybe try feeding her unswaddled and then when she starts to get drowsy unlatch her, wrap her up and continue the feed until she falls asleep, then lay her in her bassinet. Kiddopotamus makes a great swaddler it’s called the SwaddleMe, it’s amazing my LO loves it, we started wrapping her up at about 6 weeks because she kept waking herself up and it helped SO much. Also maybe try putting a heating pad on very low on top of the sheets in the bassinet to warm it up, then right before you are going to put her down take the heating pad off. That way her sheets are nice and warm. Hope this helps!
